Announcements on the dates of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections will be made today through all of you. We will also update you on the Election Commission's election-related preparations.
The moment has arrived for the Bihar Assembly elections after a five-year break. The preparation of the voter list and the actual election are the two primary functions of the Election Commission, which is a constitutional authority, as you are all aware.Starting from June 24, 2025, a special intensive review of the voter list was carried out. The enumeration period lasted from June 24 to July 25. On August 1, the draft list was published and shared with all political parties. Between August 1 and September 1, the period for claims and objections was open. During this period, any eligible voter, political party, or booth-level agent was given ample opportunity to submit claims or objections
The final voter list was then released on September 30 following eligibility verification. All political parties have been given access to the final voter list. Appeals can still be made to the district officer if there are any mistakes, and if a name is absent, it can be added up to ten days before to the nominations deadline. The voter list cannot be altered after nominations are finalised, and elections will be held using the final list.
The three Chief Election Commissioners and the rest of the Election Commission's staff recently travelled to Bihar. It was determined after this evaluation that the Commission will make the election dates known to all Bihar voters and political parties today.
All political parties, district collectors, SPs, IGs, DIGs, DGPs, the chief secretary, Divisional Commissioners, law enforcement, and CAPF nodal authorities were met with during the visit. The Bihar people are being reassured by the Election Commission that this election would be easy and simple for voters. Law and order will be keenly watched in addition to the electoral apparatus running smoothly. The Commission hopes that these elections will be transparent, calm, and perhaps even one of the finest in the state.
The Election Commission asks voters, media, and all political parties for their assistance in this regard. A succinct presentation gives a concise summary of the existing state of affairs prior to the dates being announced.
Of the 243 assembly seats in Bihar, 38 are set aside for Scheduled Castes, while two are set aside for Scheduled Tribes. There are around 35 million female voters and 39.2 million male votes out of a total of about 74.2 million voters. Approximately 400,000 people are senior citizens, 14,000 are voters over 100, and 1.4 million are first-time voters.
The Election Commission has established a goal of no more than 1,200 voters per polling station in order to guarantee voter convenience. Bihar presently has 90,712 voting places as a result of the increase in the number of polling places. There are typically 818 voters per station, 1,044 voters at women-managed polling places, and 1,350 voters in model polling places. Every polling location will have webcasting so that top authorities can keep a close eye on the voting process.
