Marrying more than one spouse may result in immediate jail under the new rule

The state assembly of Assam has approved a measure that makes polygamy illegal, which is a significant development. The Chief Minister said that although people are free to get married, they must do so within the bounds of the law. Marrying more than one spouse may result in immediate jail under the new rule, and those who violate it may also lose their ability to work for the government.

Additional information from the law indicates that those convicted of polygamy will not be allowed to work for the government or run for public office. This bill aims to prevent polygamy and shield women from exploitation. However, the rule will not apply in areas covered by the Sixth Schedule, where local traditions and tribal customs will still be in effect.

Penalties include fines and a maximum sentence of seven years in prison. Additionally, victims are entitled to about ₹1.40 lakh in compensation. Convicted individuals will no longer be eligible for government assistance programs.

Moving to Rajasthan: A farmer in the Nagaur district staged an unusual protest that went popular on social media. The farmer planted ₹500 currency notes in his field as a symbolic act after his crop was destroyed by hailstorms and he claimed did not receive insurance payout despite having coverage.

He claims that when crops stop growing, only notes are left, which emphasizes his dissatisfaction and demand for a just payment of his claims. Now full with note-like displays, field photos went viral and generated conversation across the country.

Another significant development from Bihar is that a theft at a popular Bhadrakali temple in Madhubani, valued at over ₹20 lakh, happened about three weeks ago. The deity's crown and other treasures were allegedly among the stolen goods. Tension in the area increased as locals voiced their displeasure with the police authorities due to the investigation's lack of progress.

Zakir, a polling officer from Murshidabad, West Bengal, passed away from a heart attack that the locals believe was brought on by severe work-related stress while performing routine tasks. Administrative investigations into the incident are under progress.

Donations at the Shri Sawaliya Seth Temple in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, have surpassed all prior records. This year's offerings surpassed ₹51 crore, with over ₹10 crore coming from online donations.

Approximately 1204 kilos of gold and 207 kilograms of silver were also included in the contribution count; the quantity was apparently so great that counting teams were overburdened. For devotees, it was a historic moment because the temple had never before received contributions of this magnitude.

From Uttarakhand, strict action has been taken against food adulteration. Officials in Haridwar seized nearly 700 kilograms of counterfeit paneer that was being transported illegally. The entire stock was disposed of in a large pit to prevent public consumption — a significant move in the state's ongoing crackdown on unsafe food products.
